Humility

Humble yourself to Jesus and He will be seen in the joy of your life.

John chapter 13 verses 14-17.
Jesus said to them, “And since I, the Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. I have given you an example to follow: do as I have done to you. How true it is that a servant is not greater than his master. Nor is the messenger more important than the one who sends him. You know these things—now do them! That is the path of blessing.”

My readings over the last 2 days have talked about how humility can be found in washing the feet of others. Yuk!! I have always avoided doing this, maybe it is a pride thing or maybe a man thing where I think a real man does not do such things.

It has been many years since I came to have life with Jesus and my commitment to God has increased. I no longer just visit with God and Jesus but I live with them 24 hours a day. I have a relationship where I care about what God thinks of me and through Jesus I learn how to grow in my relationship with God, my Father.
It just happens to be that "washing feet" is humbling yourself to those who need care. It brings compassion and love. I really struggled with doing this, I told my wife that I wanted to wash the feet of my prayer partners but that I was struggling with my emotions, mainly about what they would think of me for asking, in the long run it turned out to be very humbling for both parties. My friends enjoyed the experience as I shared the experience Jesus had when He washed the feet of the disciples and I felt the warmth of God's love around me. Humility can be given to anyone at anytime for example a kind word spoken or an offer to help someone out.
Matthew chapter 4 says, “Jesus travelled all through Galilee teaching in Jewish synagogues, everywhere preaching the Good news about the Kingdom of Heaven. And He healed every sort of sickness and disease. The report of His miracles spread far beyond the borders of Galilee so that sick folk were soon coming to be healed from as far away as Syria. And whatever their illness and pain, or if they were possessed by demons, or were insane or parallelized—He healed them all.”
People did not know what to make of Jesus but they did know that He could do amazing things for them and He did it freely. He spoke of the Good News and of the Kingdom of Heaven but it was the healing they wanted. He may have been speaking about His power coming from God but they did not care about where it came from just that what He could do helped them.
I’m sure they were thankful to Him but were they thankful to God? My reasons were selfish. I was controlled by addictions and wanted a better life. I’m sure at some point or another my health was not the greatest, but I wanted peace and to be content, instead of struggles and loneliness.
Following Jesus and having a relationship with God is opposite of trusting in yourself, it means we have to let go of all our ways of living and trust in God to guide us and provide for us. It means 24 hours a day our eyes are focused on God and following the teachings of Jesus.
In Exodus chapter 4 Moses is asked by God to talk to the elders of Israel, telling them that Jehovah had appeared to him and that God wants him to lead them out of their slavery with Egypt.
Verse 1 says, “But Moses spoke to God saying, They will not believe me! They will not do what I tell them to. They will say, Jehovah never appeared to you!”
I ask myself all the time, “Am I pleasing to God in all I do? and am I thanking God for everything?” These questions will only come to those who love God and are focused on a life with Him.
God sent Jesus so that I may find my way to a better life. The life that God had planned for me all along, a life filled with love for Him and all the blessings that He means for me to have. So my heart bursts with joy, with thanksgiving and love for Him and His Son, Jesus.
Philippians chapter 2 says, “Do not be selfish; do not live to make a good impression on others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourself. Do not just think about your own affairs, but be interested in others, too, and in what they are doing. Your attitude should be the kind that was shown to us by Jesus Christ, who, though He was God, did not demand and cling to His rights as God, but laid aside His mighty power and glory, taking the disguise of a slave and becoming like men.
Thank-You Father for Jesus. Thank You for Your love and Your humility shown through Your Son and the Holy Spirit.

Matthew chapter 5 verses 14-16.
You are the world’s light—a city on a hill, glowing in the night for all to see. Do not hide your light! Let it shine for all to see, so that they will praise your heavenly Father.

John chapter 14 verses 23 and 24.
Jesus replied, “Because I will only reveal Myself to those who love Me and obey Me. The Father will love them too, and we will come to them and live with them. Anyone who does not obey Me, does not love Me. And remember, I am not making up this answer to your question! It is the answer given by the Father who sent Me.

Colossians chapter 3 verses 12 and 13.
Since you have been chosen by God who has given you this new kind of life, and because of His deep love and concern for you, you should practice tender-hearted mercy and kindness to others. Do not worry about making a good impression on them but be ready to suffer quietly and patiently. Be gentle and ready to forgive; never hold grudges. Remember the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.
