Modern day disciple.
The disciple is the one leaning on his hand explaining how wonderful life is with Jesus. Thank You Father.
"If you are a follower of Jesus then you are a modern day disciple and you are His friend."
John chapter 15 verses 13-16.
Jesus said to the disciples, "And here is how to measure it---the greatest love is shown when a person lays down his life for his friends; and you are My friends if you obey Me. I no longer call you slaves, for a master does not confide in his slaves; now you are My friends, proved by the fact that I have told you everything the Father told Me. You did not choose Me! I chose you!
"If you are a follower of Jesus then you are a modern day disciple and you are His friend."
I read these words this morning and it made me feel good to think of myself as a modern day disciple, let alone being a friend of Jesus.
In Matthew chapter 28, Jesus says to the disciples, "I have been given all authority in heaven and earth. Therefore go and make disciples in all the nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and then teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you, and be sure of this---that I am with you always, even to the end of the world."
If we do nothing than nothing happens. Do things get serviced, cleaned and restored on their own? No. Someone has to step up, and take on the responsibility, otherwise it will rot and decay and no longer be useful. What happens if we do not take care of our own bodies? Or what happens if we do not make the time to show those you care about love? They fall apart is what happens.
So from the moment we wake up to the moment we go back to bed, our lives are caring for those things we have and encounter. It is a never ending cycle for the length of time that we are here. You have a shower, you clean your teeth, you prepare food to eat. You interact with others. If you have children then you are their teacher and caregiver. If you have a spouse then you know forgiveness and compassion.
Who we are in Christ has come as a result of calling out to Him. And His coming into our lives can never be forgotten or denied. It has happened and that makes you His child, His disciple, His friend.
1 John chapter 3 says, "This is what God says we must do: Believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ, and love one another. Those who do what God says---they are living with God and He with them. We know this is true because the Holy Spirit, He has given us, tells us so." When you do something you see results. Maybe they are good and maybe they cause you grief. But you do not give up, your try again. Asking God for His help will give you patience and the wisdom to seek understanding. Then with the knowledge you learn, you have a much better opportunity to be successful. And with God you end up giving Him all the praise for His guidance.
With purpose we have a goal. With successful results we experience peace and joy. These are gifts from God and they are shown to us through Christ and His Holy Spirit. You have come to have life with God as a result of Christ coming into your life. By doing things, Christ gets to give you God's love and guidance. And He uses the Holy Spirit to do this through you.
God is with you in all your experiences. Not just the good but also the sad times. Your joy is knowing that God is with you and that you are living in the Light of His Son, Jesus. So are you His disciple? Yes. For He came to you and now you are filled with His love.
Your joy will reflect Him. And maybe others will want to know more. Christ came to you, so why would He not come to others?
Thank You Father for Jesus. Thank You for answered prayers. You are our actions and the words we speak. 😊
Luke chapter 10 verses 23 and 24.
Then turning to the twelve disciples, He said quietly, "How privileged you are to see what you have seen. Many a prophet and king of old has longed for these days, to see and hear what you have seen and heard!"
Then turning to the twelve disciples, He said quietly, "How privileged you are to see what you have seen. Many a prophet and king of old has longed for these days, to see and hear what you have seen and heard!"
1 John chapter 1 verses 5 and 6.
"This is the message God has given us to pass onto you: That God is Light and in Him is no darkness at all. So if we say we are His friends, but go on living in spiritual darkness and sin, we are lying."
1 Corinthians chapter 15 verse 58.
Since future victory is sure, be strong and steady, always abounding in the Lord's work, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever wasted as it would be if there were no resurrection.
