Only God can.
A long and happy life is given by Christ to those who love God.
John chapter 16 verse 33.
Jesus said, "I have told you all this so that you will have peace of heart and mind. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows; but cheer up, for I have overcome the world."
The above statement from Christ is His promise to be with you in your trials and sorrows. His Holy Spirit is the Comforter that we need. He is the small voice that we hear, encouraging us and leading us along the paths of peace and contentment.
In 2 Timothy chapter 3 the apostle Paul says, "Yes, and those who decide to please Christ Jesus by living godly lives will suffer at the hands of those who hate Him. But you must keep on believing the things you have been taught. You know they are true for you know that you can trust those of us who have taught you. You know how, when you were a small child, you were taught the Holy Scriptures; and it is these that make you wise to accept God's salvation by trusting in Christ Jesus. The whole Bible was given to us by inspiration from God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives; it straightens us out and helps us do what is right. It is God's way of making us prepared at every point fully equipped to do good, to everyone."
I do not know what it is that made you think of God in your time of distress. But something did. My mom had taken me to church when I was a child, but my life went in a different direction and it was about 35 years latter when I thought about God.
I was like the story in the bible of the prodigal son who had wandered away from home but when troubles overwhelmed him and he found himself in distress, he called out to his father for help. And found he was welcomed with open arms. (Luke chapter 15)
I wandered away and twice my father made room for me at home, but once on my own again I fell back into my bad habits. I was twenty when my dad died leaving me stunned, and filled with remorse.
I continued to work hard but I also played hard. There were times that my mom helped me but that did not change my ways. It was only in my deepest moment that I thought of speaking to God. I did not expect anything. Maybe I was just hoping for something, anything! Well that piece of hope was all I needed. God brought Christ into my life and the desires of my habits made me suffer as I healed.
I had wasted away a lot of years on what I thought was fun. Even with the hardships of life I was lost to being single, just getting by in my job and getting worse at my addictions. Wow! Only God knew what He had in store for me.
In Hebrews chapter 12 the apostle Paul says, "Let us strip off anything that slows us down or hold us back, and especially those sins that wrap themselves so tightly around our feet and trip us up; and let us run with patience the particular race that God has set before us. Keep your eyes on Jesus, our leader and instructor."
I would never have thought that God could do for me what He has done. The Scriptures lead me through each day. Christ has filled me with the Holy Spirit and God's love brings me the peace of His watchful eye. I cannot give Him enough praise and gratitude. He provides me with more than I need. He has made me creative and filled with the want to help others. I still make mistakes and I do things that do not make any sense. But I do hold tightly to Christ, trying to live a life that is pleasing to God.
In Joshua chapter 1, God spoke saying, "No one will be able to oppose you as long as you live, for I will be with you, just as I was with Moses; I will not abandon you or fail you to help you. Be strong and brave, for you will be a successful leader of My people; and they shall conquer all the land I promised to their ancestors. You need only to be strong and courageous and to obey to the letter every law Moses gave you, for if you are careful to obey every one of them you will be successful in everything you do. Constantly remind the people about these laws, and you yourself must think about them every day and every night so that you will be sure to obey all of them. For only then will you succeed. Yes, be bold and strong! Banish fear and doubt! for remember, the Lord your God is with you wherever you go."
And God surely is. Seek God in all you do. Read the Scriptures, hang around those who believe as you do. Make time to help others and maybe share Jesus with them. He is able to help them as He did you.
Thank You Father for Jesus. Thank You for Your Light that shines in on those who know You. 😊
Romans chapter 5 verses 10 and 11.
And since, when we were His enemies, we were brought back to God by the death of His Son, what blessings He must have for us now that we are His friends, and He is living within us! Now we rejoice in our wonderful new relationship with God---all because of what our Lord Jesus Christ has done in dying for our sins---making us friends of God.
Psalms chapter 34 verses 4-6.
All day and all night Your hand was heavy on me. My strength evaporated like water on a sunny day until I finally admitted all my sins to You and stopped trying to hide them. I said to myself, "I will confess them to the Lord." And You forgave me! All my guilt was gone. Now I say that each believer should confess his sins to God when he is aware of them, while there is time to be forgiven. Judgement does not touch him if he does.
Ephesians chapter 3 verse 20.
Now, glory be to God who by His mighty power at work within us is able to do far more than we would ever dare to ask or even dream of---infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, or hopes.
